NY FASHION WEEK? Imitation of Christ

So after a several year hiatus from the runway, this season I returned to New York Fashion Week to do Tara Subkoff’s Imitation of Christ presentation. ?Located in Chelsea?s Bortolami Gallery, the show was titled “This Is Not A Fashion Show”? which turned out to be very appropriate because it literally was not. ?In fact, I still am not completely sure what the collection looks like although I did enjoy the glass sculptures in the shapes of breasts, vaginas and faces, all marked with plastic surgery marks that some of the nude models sported (although those probably won’t be for sale at?Barney’s anytime soon). ?And by “models”, I am referring to the real women ages seven to seventy that were cast for the show. ?Out of the 50+ women involved in the performance, only one was an actual model. ?For more about the show, check out the Starworks blog?or Style.com.
The performers had two totally different looks. ?The first (displayed above) was an homage to the concept of un-natural beauty. ?I was inspired by trans icon Amanda Lepore and her outrageous lips.?The second was very fresh and pretty with a focus on a matte lip (see below). ?Tara really wanted to create a bit of drama around the eyes but without a smokey or graphic look. ?Pina Bausch inspired a subtle take on stage beauty with white shadow on the inner corners of the eyes and a white line on the inner rim of the eyes creating drama against a smudged deep brown bottom lash.

My favorite face of the show (and the only model) was Nancy Ozelli. ?Nancy has gorgeous bone structure and enviable white hair… so chic! ?Check her out on Advanced Style!
